Illustration Friday "Flawed"

"Batteries not included"

This poor Robot would love nothing more than to run outside and feel the sun on his metallic face. But due to a basic design flaw he has to remain plugged into the mains at all times.

My original take for Illustration Friday's theme of "Flawed" was going to be a caricature of Mills (Brad Pitt)from the movie Se7en. The ending is still (for me) one of the most powerful and memorable in film history.
Ultimately it's Mills' flaws and his eventual Wrath that culminate in his own tragic downfall. Despite this I felt it was all a bit too morbid for IF, so he remains as the sketch you see here. The pose is taken from the moment after he discovers what's in the box! On that cheery note...bye bye!

  13. Awesome robot! The BP sketch is really great, too. I would be ecstatic if my sketches looked that good!

Just checked out your Blue Mountain card as well... excellent work. Especially the crudely drawn diagram.

  16. Poor little fella... maybe a car battery on wheels would be the answer ;) Great use of the 'manga eyes' highlights to amp up the sympathy! Now I love Seven as much as anyone. Freeman and Pitt are amazing in it and you are right, that ending gives you goosebumps whenever you watch it...... (but...?).......despite the fact that Brad does that very weird 'oh god...ooohhh god...oooooohhhhh' stuff while screwing his face up. Is it just me or is that a tad too much...? Love the sketch regardless but glad you opted for a happier flaw :)

  27. I estimate that I think that poor old robot might be able to atleast sit on the window-sil.
    Give him a happy ending.

Great pick of Brad Pitt too!
