Illustration Friday "Climbing"

"Been there. Done that"

Climbing a mountain / drawing a cartoon. Invariably you'll find that someone has had the idea first, done it better, faster and more easily than you could have imagined. Annoying isn't it?

  6. Annoying... oh yes... but I guess it isn't a reason not to do it. I saw a quote somewhere by someone...sometime... I forget... ... what was I saying...?... oh yes... (to paraphrase) just because someone else has done it before don't feel you are copying, just do what you want in YOUR way to do justice to the concept and pay tribute to your influences. Still pi**es you off when someone is there first though! Love the 'over the hill' card by the by... was my birthday earlier this month so I can relate ;)

  9. Thanks everyone, hope I didn't come across like a grumpy old sourpuss. Matt has a very good point. We should do whatever we want, no matter what's come before. Why? Because we love it!

  10. great piece, I love the scale and the colors.
It reminds me of when we were climbing 14ers in Colorado and we had a really peaceful beautiful climb then right as we hit the summit there was a big noisy organized party of teenagers! Heee heee.

  13. Very funny. By chance I did an animated cartoon about Obama-Clinton with a similar theme. I uploaded at Youtube and you can watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acpt-QpvIiM

  14. Wonderful image and well put point (both you and Matt). I often come across similar work - often decades old - that is frighteningly similar. I guess I take it with a grain of salt and realize the subtle difference make it mine and the confidence to know I didn't intentionally steal the image.

    Great card below as well.

Thank you for your kind words.

  28. I love the relation you created between climbing and drawing a cartoon, it's breathtaking. This activity is so difficult to realize. The climbing is a really difficult sport, and it's evident in the face of the guy.

  29. Poor guy climbing to reach the top pf the mountain while the grandma is resting there, but what we can do, the women always have privileges we should respect.
