"What did the Butler see?"
Once again this is an image I already had (in sketch form), so I thought I would flesh it out and use it for this weeks Illustration Friday. I thought the pose and expression suggested something spooky was going on. I'm not sure what he saw or heard in that big spooky mansion but whatever it was has him rattled.
This was a deliberate attempt to move away from my usual style and attempt something out of my comfort zone and try to be a bit more versatile, I guess. You can see below how I moved beyond the initial sketch which was just drawn freehand in Flash. I took the sketch into Corel Painter to create the final image above.
Thanks for stopping by :)

ReplyDeleteOh now I'm wondering too!! Oh what did he see! Perhaps it was the Mrs, with no makeup on? This is wonderful. Great work!!!
ReplyDeleteis a great character!! a classic one
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have done that illustration!! really great!!
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration!
ReplyDeleteNice job on a cool character piece that captures the theme in its tone. Good coloring and thanks for showing your original line work.
ReplyDeleteNice work, yet again. Fun expression-- and its interesting how hes stretched, it seems. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteAnother classic haunted house story take on the IF theme.. great character design, the pose is very good and the rendering is very painterly. I wish the image wasnt so tightly cropped on the figure, maybe let us see something in the gloom behind him or something in the torchlight that he hasnt spotted yet?

ReplyDeleteYou always have such great characters, Chris! I especially like the way you drew his right hand. I know that sounds funny but, I feel you can sence the awkwardness in it along with his expression.
